Head Coach

Al White enters his 10th season in 2008 as head coach of the Madonna softball program. In 2007, he led the Crusaders to a 34-16 overall mark and their sixth overall season with at least 30 wins under White.  The Crusaders finished the year in second place in the WHAC standings with a 14-6 record in league play, but went on to become the first softball team in school history to win the conference tournament with a 9-4 win over Aquinas College.

Following the WHAC Tournament championship, White and the Crusaders clinched the number one seed in the NAIA Region VIII Tournament and came within one game of advancing to the NAIA National Tournament after falling to Bethel College in the championship round.

Currently, White has a .574 winning percentage at Madonna and is the winningest softball coach in Madonna history, compiling an overall record of 276-185-3 in nine seasons.

White has led the Crusaders to a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season title in 2004 and was also named WHAC and NAIA Region VIII Coach of the Year.  The Crusaders recent success includes three consecutive trips to the regional tournament, including a regional runner-up finish in 2006.

In 2005, White guided the MU softball team to a 35-15 overall record and a 10-9 record in league play, which saw the Crusaders finish third overall in the WHAC standings.

White has worked as an assistant to the team since the program's inception in 1990, including the team that attended the 1994 NAIA National Tournament. He was largely responsible for working with the Crusaders' pitching staff.

Prior to joining the Madonna coaching staff, White assisted at Ladywood High School (Livonia, MI) during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.

As a softball player, White was a member of the 1985 and 1991 national championship teams in Amateur Softball Association of America Major Open Fastpitch, both out of Miami, Florida.  In 1998, White was inducted in to the Michigan/Detroit ASA Hall of Fame as a pitcher.

Prior to his Hall of Fame fastpitch career, White starred as a pitcher and shortstop at Scott High School in Madison, West Virginia, earning All-State honors for the Skyhawks.  Following his high school career, White was recruited to play at Morris Harvey College in West Virginia.

White is a retired commercial sheet metal worker of 37 years and resides in Canton, with his wife, Maryln and will be celebrating 40 years of marriage this year.  The couple have one daughter, Shannon (35) and one son Curtis (35), who is also a member of the Madonna softball coaching staff.  White is a proud grandparent of four grandchildren; Allee, Avery, Dylan and Drew.
