RESULTS

NORTHVILLE, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com - - The Madonna University women's cross country team opened the 2010 season on Saturday (Sept. 11), running in the Running Fit Detroit Titan Invitational at Cass Benton Park. The Crusaders came in fifth in the event.

Wayne State won the event with Front Line Racing, Macomb Community College and the host University of Detroit coming in second, third and fourth respectively.

Senior Sarah Sherwood (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) led the Crusaders with her first top-10 finish of the season as the two-time NAIA National Championship qualifier finished seventh in a time of 19:12 on the five kilometer course.

Junior Emily Bambach (Livonia, Mich. / Ladywood) was 33rd with a time of 21:47 and senior Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich. / Central) was one second and one spot in the final standings behind Bambach in her collegiate cross country debut. Grinvalds was a four-time All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selection on the volleyball court the last four seasons.

unior Cassie Yarnall (Clarkston, Mich. / Auburn Hills Christian) placed 37th with a time of 22:22.

MU returns to the course next Friday (Sept. 17), making the short trip to East Lansing for the Spartan Invitational.
