NEW HAVEN, Ind. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The Madonna University women's golf team opened defense of its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title from a season ago with a second place showing on Tuesday (Sept. 7) at WHAC Jamboree No. 1 hosted by Indiana Tech at Whispering Creek Golf Club.
The Crusaders turned in a team total of 335, one shot behind the host Warriors and nine shots in front of third place Davenport.
Sophomore Michelle Hall (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing) led the Crusaders for the third straight event, coming in fourth with an eight-over round of 80 in blustery conditions.
A trio of Crusaders - senior Sara Simnitch (Swartz Creek, Mich. / Swartz Creek), junior Chelsea Bathurst (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) and freshman Kaitlyn Brasher (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) - finished seventh, eighth and ninth with rounds of 84, 85 and 86 respectively.
Senior Mariel Meyers (Westland, Mich. / Franklin) tied for 13th with an 88 while sophomore Megan Fleischer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Marian Catholic) turned in a round of 90 to finish 21st.
The Crusaders return to the course next Friday (Sept. 17), traveling to Scott Lake Country Club for WHAC Jamboree No. 2 hosted by Aquinas College.
