DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - After dropping sets two and three of its match against Wayland Baptist University, the No. 21-ranked Madonna University volleyball team rallied to force a fifth set but could not complete the comeback, falling in five sets to the Warriors and extend the program's longest losing streak since 1991 to five games with the 25-19, 16-25, 18-25, 25-13, 13-15 loss inside the ICI Center as part of the ERAU Labor Day Tournament.

Juniors Karie Altman (Taylor, Mich. / St. Frances Cabrini) and Megan Fricke (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt) paced MU with 18 kills each as Fricke set a new career-high with her 18 terminations. Joining the duo in double figures were senior Liz Dempsey (Westland, Mich. / Franklin) with 16 kills to go along with 31 digs and sophomore Anastasija Baranovska (Riga, Latvia / Rigas Secondary School No. 16) who set a new career-best with 12 kills. Freshman Evia Prieditis (Milford, Mich. / Milford) set a new career-high with 67 assists and junior libero Amanda Koszela (Dearborn, Mich. / Dearborn) led all players with 37 digs. Following the match Altman was named to the all-tournament team.

In the decisive set, the Crusaders fell behind 4-3 early before tying the set and going on top 5-4 on a block from Baranovska and Fricke. Kills from Fricke and freshman Miranda Sechler (Tekonsha, Mich. / Coldwater) followed by a Desiree Luevano attack error put MU up 8-5 at the turn. Following the side change, the Warriors ran off four straight points to go up 9-8. Sechler tied the set at nine-all with another kill and the two sides traded points before two Crusader errors and a Warrior kill put Wayland Baptist on top 14-11. MU staved off elimination using two Altman kills but Kate Trejos ended the match with a kill from the right side to give WBU the 3-2 win.

MU was dominant in set one after rallying from an 8-3 deficit, the Crusaders tied the set at 15-all and cruised to the 25-19 win behind nine Fricke kills and four each from Altman and Baranovska.

Sets two and three saw the Warriors lead early and not look back, holding MU to a .000 attack percentage in set two and forcing the Crusaders into six errors.

The Crusaders rolled in set four, jumping out to an early 10-4 lead before closing the set on a 15-9 run to win 25-13 and set up a second winner-take-all fifth set of the day.

MU returns to action next weekend, hosting the 10th annual Julie Martin Memorial Classic inside the Activities Center. Action gets underway on both courts at 3pm on Friday (Sept. 10).
