BOX SCORE

La CROSSE, Wis. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Behind a pair of second half goals from seniors Ogbemudia Iyoha (Benin City, Nigeria / Ann Arbor Huron) and Jacob Rosiek (Oak Park, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic), the Eric Scott era of Madonna University men's soccer kicked off with a 2-0 shutout over Viterbo University on Sunday (Aug. 22) at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Parker Laabs (Canton, Mich. / Canton) recorded the first clean sheet of his MU career and Scott was quick to praise his defense in his first career head coaching victory.

"We got standout performances from Nick Dordeski (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), John Swiastyn (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc), Derek Rosiek (Oak Park, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) and Franco Giorgi (Windsor, Ont. / Kennedy Collegiate Institute) and Ogbemudia," commented Scott. "Andrew Kidder (Rochester, Mich. / Lutheran North) and Andrew Huang (Canton, Mich. / Canton) helped to lock down their front line and we did a great job of not allowing central penetration. I thought we attacked well, but still need to get connected with our forwards more."

Rosiek got the scoring started in the 64th minute, finishing off a pass from Iyoha for what held up as the game winner. Iyoha capped the scoring in the 76th minute, scoring an unassisted goal for the 2-0 final.

The Crusaders complete their two-game season opening road trip with a 4pm match on Thursday at Huntington University.
