LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - For the second straight season the Madonna University baseball program's newest members will be playing in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game as two future Crusaders - Ryan Lech (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and Paul Lobur (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) have been selected for the annual game held at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers.
Rising sophomore third baseman Brad Lineberry (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) was selected for the 2009 game last season.
Lech - a 5-11 middle infielder - is in his fourth season on the varsity team for head coach Jeff Dropps at L'Anse Creuse North. As a junior, Lech hit .400 with 23 runs batted in and 12 doubles for the Crusaders in addition to posting five wins on the mound and a 1.64 earned run average. A two-time all-academic selection and a three-time all- in the classroom, Lech was named to the all-district team as a junior (2009). Lech's Anchor Bay Angels summer team captured the 16-and under USSSA state title in 2008.
Before Lech turns his attention to the annual classic, he and his L'Anse Creuse North teammates have advanced to the 2010 MHSAA state semi-finals this weekend in Battle Creek and are just two wins away from claiming a state title.
Lobur - a 6-0 infielder and catcher - is in his fourth season on the varsity squad for head coach Adam Wooley at Lamphere. A three-time selection to the Macomb Area Conference (MAC) all-academic team, Lobur is a two-time All-MAC Gold selection as well as a two-time pick to the Royal Oak Daily Tribune's All-Area team (2007, '08) in addition to being selected as the Rams co-Most Valuable Player as a sophomore (2008). Shoulder surgery limited Lobur to just 15 games as a junior, but a .471 average and 14 runs batted in earned him all-district honors. This past fall Lobur earned All-MAC second team honors on the football field for the Rams. In the summer months Lobur is a member of the nationally ranked South Oakland A's travel program.
The 2010 Madonna University baseball team had a historic season, setting the program record for wins with 48 while capturing the program's fifth Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title in the last six seasons and ending the year ranked at No. 10 in the final NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll.
