LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Madonna University head women's basketball coach
Carl Graves announced Wednesday (May 26) that he has signed Oakland Community College transfer
Rebecca Wojcinski (Waterford, Mich./Mott/Oakland CC) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Madonna starting this fall.
Wojcinski joins
Carrie Kloster (Ida, Mich./Ida),
Rachel Melcher (Sterling Heights, Mich./Bloomfield Hills Marian Catholic) and
Kayleigh McCollum (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon Catholic Central) as new additions to the MU roster for 2010-11.
"
Rebecca Wojcinski has a great court sense, and will and to our size and depth at the post position. She brings valuable experience to MU as a transfer, which could help in addressing the loss of Kim Olech to graduation. Rebecca's family is pleased that she has the opportunity to continue her career and education at Madonna, and our program is pleased that she has chosen to join us in our quest. The returning upperclassmen have taken to her right away, which I love to see. We have added another unselfish and mature player to the roster, and I'm excited for her. As a post player here, she knows she has a hard road ahead, but she seems to be up to the challenge. Coach Marv Allen at OCC assured me that we were gaining a wonderful player and student, but a better person with this commitment. He believes Rebecca has the potential to do great things to help this team right away."
The 6-2 Wojcinski led the Raiders to a 19-10 overall mark and a 12-4 record in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's Eastern Division as a sophomore. During her freshman season the Raiders finished as the runner-up in the NJCAA Region XII finals. This past season Wojcinski posted 28 blocks to go along with a 6.2 rebounds per game average and was named to the MCCAA all-academic team. Prior to her time at OCC, Wojcinski earned letters in both basketball and track at Waterford Mott High School.
Madonna advanced to the 2010 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title game for the third time in four seasons and loses just one senior for the 2010-11 season.
