DECATUR, Ala. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The No. 23-ranked Madonna University softball team closed out its season with a 4-0 setback against Minot State University to end pool play in the 2010 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park.

The Crusaders - winners of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships - close the year at 43-12.

Minot scored a run in the bottom of the first inning off of MU starter Jess Irwin (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) when Deanna Mitchell singled home Janessa Penner for a 1-0 lead.

MSU made it 2-0 in the fourth before Madonna mounted a threat in the top of the fifth.

After Kelly Lesko (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) reached on a hustle double down the left field line, Brittney Scero (Canton, Mich./Canton) drew a walk to put two runners on for WHAC Player of the Year Cat Sidor (Livonia, Mich./Churchill). Sidor took ball one and the MSU defense caught Lesko in a rundown between second and third to end the threat.

The Beavers added two more runs off of Irwin (29-6) in the bottom of the inning for the 4-0 final.
The Crusaders bid good bye to three seniors - Rachael Kethe (Lenox, Mich./Richmond/Western Michigan), Scero and Sidor - and return 15 letter winners for the 2011 season.
