SILVIS ILL. - - The Madonna University men's golf team shot a combined score of 323 on day three of the NAIA National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis Ill. The Crusaders started and finished the day in 22nd position overall.

With the top 17 teams advancing after completion of 54 holes, the Crusaders close the book on a historic season in which they captured the program's first WHAC title and NAIA National Championships birth.

Junior Brett Quitiquit(Highland, Mich./Milford/Oakland Univ.) remains in second place overall after shooting a five-over par 76 on the third day of play. Quitiquit will continue the chase for an individual National Title Friday. Quitiquit is two over par for the tournament and six shots off of the lead heading into the final day of competition

Shooting a 78 on day three, James Uelmen (Ferndale, Mich./Dondero/Oakland CC) moved up from 81st place, where he started the day, to a tie for 66th position. Uelmen finished with an overall score of 233 after shooting rounds of 78, 77, and 78 for the Championships.

Tommy Lucko (Livonia, Mich./Churchill/Oakland CC) finished with an overall score of 246 after turning in a round of 85 on Thursday.

Nick Sears (Clio, Mich. FlintPowers Catholic) and Steve South (Westland, Mich. Franklin) turned in rounds of 84 and 86 respectively to round out the Crusaders scoring for day three of the Championships. Sears finished with a total score of 253 after three rounds and South totaled 259 after 54 holes at TPC Deere Run.

Quitiquit briefly shared the lead at four under par after he birdied his first hole of the day, the 576 yard par-five 10th hole. Quitiquit battled the rest of the way through the back nine and made the turn at five over par for the round. After the turn, Quitiquit birdied the par-five second hole to move back to one over par for the Championships and rattled off six straight pars before dropping a stoke on the 480 yard par-four. Quitiquit is scheduled to tee of with group two on Friday at 7:46 am, he holds a two stroke lead over Julian Valenciana, who sits alone in third place at four over par.
