MU struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning as senior Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi) led off with a walk and moved to second two batters later when junior Dan Harder (Brighton, Mich./Brighton/Heidelberg) was hit by a pitch. Flavin scored to make it 1-0 on a single from sophomore Billy Hardin III (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central/Ashland) that moved Harder to third. Junior Mike Gansser reached when the ball he was hit was misplayed in center, allowing Harder to score and make it 2-0.

CU took the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs off of Gooding as the first three Cards reached base and a Madonna error allowed two runners to score before a single from Zach Paustian scored another run to make it 3-2 CU.

The Crusaders responded to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth by plating four runs. Flavin led off with a double and moved to second on a Matt Kay (Canton, Mich./Canton/Henry Ford CC) ground ball. Harder and Hardin III walked to load the bases to set the stage for Holland. The rookie backstop connected on a single to center to plate a pair and make it 4-3. Courtesy runner Alex Charles (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice Catholic) then stole second and was followed up with a single back to the mound from senior Ted Toune (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center/Lansing CC) with the throw to first going wide and up the line, allowing both Hardin III and Charles to score to make it a 6-3 game.

Concordia posted a run in the fourth to make it a two-run game at 6-4 but Madonna added an insurance run in the eighth to make it 7-4.

Gooding allowed a one-out double by Pounders in the ninth but got a pair of fly outs to Charles in center to end the game.
