LOCKBOURNE, Ohio (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Powered by a pair of Crusaders tying for third, the Madonna University men's golf team ended the day where it began - in second place at the Purple and White Invitational hosted by Capital University at Foxfire Golf Club. MU ended the tournament 14 shots behind eventual winner and No. 3-ranked Malone University.
The Crusaders - who are the No. 31 team in the nation - saw senior Kyle Lawrey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flushing/Mott CC) shoot a second round 79 to tie for third with teammate Jimmy Uelmen (Ferndale, Mich./Dondero/Oakland CC) who turned in an 81 as both finished with a 153 total.
Junior Brett Quitiquit (Highland, Mich./Milford/Oakland) tied for eighth with a two-day total of 156 after back-to-back rounds of 78. Fellow junior Tommy Lucko (Livonia, Mich./Churchill/Oakland CC) trimmed seven shots off of his day one score to card a 74 (the lowest round of the day) and end the event tied for 19th. Austin Stillman (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) tied for 23rd playing as an individual.
The Crusaders have little time before their next event as MU travels to the NAIA Classic at the Brickyard in Indianapolis, Indiana, starting Monday (April 12).
