LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - -In a game it never trailed in, the Madonna University women's basketball team downed the visiting University of Michigan-Dearborn 78-52 on Wednesday night (Feb. 17) inside the Activities Center.
Freshman
Heather Pratt (Flushing, Mich.) led the Crusaders with a career-high 21 points while sophomore
Heather Goodwin (Temperance, Mich.) added 12 markers and eight rebounds to go along with 11 points from freshman
Shantelle Herring (Macomb, Mich.). Megan Robinets led all players with 23 points for UMD.
The first six minutes was tightly contested as the two sides traded baskets and after UMD made it 11-all with 13:47 left, MU went on a 13-3 run over the next three minutes to go on top 24-14. Herring scored a pair of buckets off of steals and sophomore
Erin Bentley (Monroe, Mich.) hit a pair of triples during the run for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders held onto the lead, pushing it out to as much as 11 late in the half before taking a 36-28 lead into intermission.
MU went back up by 10 as the second half began on a Goodwin score but UMD responded with a 10-2 run to pull to with in two at 40-38 with 16:48 left in the game.
The Crusaders answered back with an 8-0 run to go back on top by 10 at 48-38. UMD got back with in eight at 48-40 but could not get any closer the rest of the way as MU cruised to the 78-52 win.
MU - which could still host a home playoff game in the upcoming WHAC Championship - closes the regular season on Saturday in a 1pm tip against Concordia. Prior to the game the Crusaders will honor their lone senior,
