NAIA RELEASE

LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The Madonna University softball program opens the 2010 campaign as the No. 14-ranked team in the country according to the pre-season edition of the NAIA Coaches' Poll that was released on Tuesday (Feb. 2). The No. 14 ranking is the highest MU has been in a preseason poll in program history and follows the Crusaders No. 13 ranking in the final poll of the 2009 season.

The Crusaders are the only Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference team to garner a preseason ranking in the first poll of the 2010 season.

Head coach Al White welcomes back nine letter winners from the 2009 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions, led by a pair of All-Americans in junior right hander Jess Irwin (Monroe, Mich.) and senior second baseman Brittney Scero (Canton, Mich.). Joining the All-American duo is a pair of All-WHAC selections in senior Cat Sidor (Livonia, Mich.) and junior Ashley Shay (Garden City, Mich.).

The Crusaders open the 2010 season on March 6, taking on Purdue-Calumet as part of the Tucson Invitational.
