LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Head Volleyball Coach Jerry Abraham announced Tuesday (Jan. 26) that he has signed Lutheran Westland High School product Emilie Freeman (Livonia, Mich.) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Madonna University next fall.

"Emilie is a talented three-sport athlete with the size, ability and athleticism to excel as a versatile college volleyball player," commented Abraham following the signing. "Once she learns to adjust to the speed of the college game, she has the ability to attack from antenna to antenna and shine as a dominant attacker and blocker. Emilie can attack from both the middle and outside hitter positions and is a gutsy performer who has a very bright future at Madonna."

Freeman - a 6-3 middle and outside hitter - has earned letters in not only volleyball but basketball and track. Freeman led the Warriors to a pair of Michigan Independent Athletic Conference titles as well as two state district titles as a junior and senior (2008, '09). Under head coach Kevin Wade the Warriors won the state regional title and finished as the state runner-up in 2008.

As a senior Freeman tallied 369 kills, 119 total blocks, 82 digs and 63 aces en route to being named the MIAC Most Valuable Player in addition to being named to the All-MIAC, and all-area first teams and the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association All-State second team. Off the playing field Freeman is a member of the National Honor Society.

Madonna ended the 2009 season with a 32-7 record and advance to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament championship match.
