LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - -
The Madonna University women's basketball team came into Wednesday night's (Jan. 20) game looking for a signature win on its schedule and did just that, helped by shooting 65 percent from the floor in the first half, in sealing up a 76-63 win over Cornerstone University inside the Activities Center.

The Crusaders connected on 19 of their 29 shots in the opening 20 minutes including six three pointers before ending the game shooting at a 54 percent clip. Sophomore Erin Bentley (Monroe, Mich.) led Madonna with 17 points and junior Tabatha Wydrick (Wyandotte, Mich.) added 16 points and seven rebounds. Freshmen Kaylee McGrath (Livonia, Mich.) and Kristie Porada (Gibraltar, Mich.) each added 10 points while McGrath grabbed seven rebounds. Robyn Veltkamp led the Golden Eagles with 21 points and Brooke Carter added a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The game opened with both sides trading the lead back and forth until a Bentley triple put the Crusaders up 7-4, a lead the home side did not relinquish.

MU built its lead out to as many as 20 (40-20) with 5:33 left, taking advantage of six made three pointers and took a 45-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Cornerstone opened the second half on a 5-0 run to trim the Madonna lead down to10 but a Wydryck three started an 8-0 MU run that was capped by back-to-back buckets from Bentley, including one of her trio of threes, to push the lead back up to 18.

The Golden Eagles trimmed the Crusader lead down to 10 with just over a minute to go but could not get any closer as the Crusaders picked up their second WHAC win in a row 76-63.

Madonna returns to the road on Saturday, making its shortest road trip of the season to Michigan-Dearborn for a 1pm tip-off inside the UMD Fieldhouse.
