LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - -
In a back and forth game where neither team led by more than nine and both teams shot 41 percent from the floor, it was Indiana Tech taking away a 76-73 decision against the Madonna University men's basketball team inside the Activities Center on Saturday (Jan. 16).

Freshman Kevin Henry (Toledo, Ohio) led Madonna with 13 points and sophomore Josh Gay (Woodburn, Ind.) added 11 in defeat. Jason Souder led all scorers with 18 points off the bench for Tech.

Tech opened up its largest lead of the game just under six minutes into the game, claiming a 12-5 edge. Madonna responded with a 21-7 run over the next eight minutes to go on top by its largest lead of the day at 28-19 with 6:36 left.

The Warriors cut into the Crusader lead over the final five minutes and took the lead on a Nikola Mihajlovic lay up with just over a minute left in the half to take a 31-30 lead into the locker room.

Coming out of the break Tech pushed its lead out to as many as five early before MU tied the contest at 39-all with 16:02 to go. The two sides traded baskets and the lead back and forth over the next six minutes until junior Ryan Waidmann (Canton, Mich.) found a wide open Gay in the corner for a three that gave Madonna the lead back at 50-48 with 10 minutes left in the game.

MU extended its lead out to six on two separate occasions, the last coming on a Henry basket that made it a 56-50 game with 7:57 left.

Tech tied the game at 58-all and again at 60-all before senior Leroy Allen (Detroit, Mich.) put MU on top 62-60 on a runner in the lane with 3:03 left.

Tech took the lead back for good on a pair of Anthony Johnson free throws and went up six when Shaun Cabrera hit a three from NBA range to put the Warriors up 74-68. Cabrera's three was just the second Tech made on the day.

Gay hit a runner in the lane to bring the Crusaders back to with in four (74-70) and after Johnson missed a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left that would have iced the game, junior Bryant Slaughter (Westland, Mich.) hit a triple from the left corner to make it a one-point game at 74-73 with three seconds left.

Cabrera was fouled on the ensuing play and knocked down both of his free throw attempts before senior Jordan Hoke's (Grand Rapids, Mich.) last ditch three attempt fell short, giving Tech the 76-73 win.

The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, taking on No. 16-ranked Cornerstone as part of a double header with the Madonna women's basketball team. The MU women get the night started by hosting the Golden Eagles at 5:30pm with the men's game to follow at approximetly 7:30pm. Both games can be heard on the Crusader Radio Network.
