BOX SCORE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A 24-4 run to open the game by the host Panthers of Davenport University was too much to overcome as the Madonna University men's basketball team fell to 0-3 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a 78-59 loss on Wednesday night (Jan. 13) inside the DU Student Center.

Senior Leroy Allen (Detroit, Mich.), junior Ryan Waidmann (Canton, Mich.) and sophomore Josh Gay (Woodburn, Ind.) led MU with eight points each while Waidmann led the Crusaders on the boards, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.

The Panthers shot over 44 percent in the opening 20 minutes, building their lead out to as many as 22 points at 30-8 with 5:47 left in the half. The Crusaders were able to whittle the deficit down to 11 with threes from junior Ryan Bahnmiller (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Gay along with a bucket from Allen to make it a 30-19 game with 2:31 left. DU closed the half on a 5-0 run to take a 35-19 lead in to the locker room.

Madonna opened the second half on a 16-8 run over the first five minutes to pull to with in eight at 43-35 thanks to five points from junior Bryant Slaughter (Westland, Mich.) and Gay along with a Bahnmiller score to trim the DU lead back into single digits.

The Panthers went back up by 10 on their next trip and did not let the Crusaders get closer than 10 points the rest of the way, sealing up their fourth WHAC win of the season by a 78-59 final.

The Crusaders will come home in search of their first league win of the season, hosting Indiana Tech on Saturday at 3pm inside the Activities Center. The Crusader Radio Network will have all of the action live from courtside starting at 2:55pm.
