BOX SCORE
LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The Madonna University men's basketball team returned home for the first time in almost a month but the friendly confines of the Activities Center were not to overcome an early surge by visiting Olivet College as MU fell 79-55 on Friday night (Dec. 4) in the WHAC/MIAA Challenge.
The Crusaders were led by senior Leroy Allen (Detroit, Mich.) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kevin Henry (Toledo, Ohio) joined Allen in double-figures with 10 markers. Nathan Jennings led all players with 23 points for Olivet while Michael McClary posted a double-double for the Comets with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The two sides opened the game trading baskets with the Crusaders holding a slim 7-6 lead with just 14 minutes left in the opening half. The Comets then broke the game open, going on a 24-4 run over the next seven minutes to go on top 30-11. Olivet maintained the lead, taking a 43-24 edge into the locker room.
In the opening half Madonna was whistled for 14 turnovers while Olivet was guilty of just five.
Coming out of the break MU could not trim the deficit to less than 15 until Allen stole the ball and converted the turnover into a slam dunk to make it a 14 point game at 62-48 with 9:46 left. Olivet answered back with another run, taking its lead from 14 back up to 25 with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to seal the game away.
The Crusaders return to the court on Saturday (Dec. 4) to take on Alma - a 71-68 winner over UM-Dearborn in the first game of the night - in a 2pm game that will be carried live on the Crusader Radio Network.
