AVE MARIA, Fla. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A one point halftime lead turned into a 14-point win for the Madonna University men's basketball team in a 59-45 win at Ave Maria University inside the Donehue Academy Gym on Saturday night (Nov. 21). The win is MU's first of the season and also the first in the young coaching career of head coach Noel Emenhiser.
After falling behind 21-10 in the first half the Crusaders ended the first frame on a 14-2 run taking the one point lead to the break.
Junior Ryan Waidmann (Canton, Mich.) led Madonna with a career high 18 points connecting on 6-6 from the floor for 12 points in the first half.
Madonna shot 10-25 in the first half including 3-5 from behind the arc in the first half. The Crusaders continued the strong shooting in the second half connecting on 10-22 from the floor.
Madonna's defense was the deciding factor in the game as the Crusaders held the Gyrenes to 23 percent shooting from the floor for the game. Madonna limited Ave Maria to 6-37 from the floor in the second half, just 16.2 percent.
Madonna returns to action December 4, when the Crusaders host the WHAC-MIAA Challenge on the Campus of Madonna University. Madonna is set to face Olivet College on the 4th at 8 p.m.
