BOX SCORE
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A red hot 63 percent shooting performance in the second half could not overcome a cold shooting first half that saw the Madonna University men's basketball team connect at just a 14 percent rate as the Crusaders fell to NCAA Division I member IPFW 86-57 on Tuesday night (Nov. 17) inside the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Freshman Kevin Henry (Toledo, Ohio) led MU with 13 points and four assists while senior Jordan Hoke (Byron Center, Mich.) added 10 points in the set back. Deilvez Yearby led all scorers with 20 points for the Mastodons.
IPFW opened the game on a 6-0 run before a free throw from senior Leroy Allen (Detroit, Mich.) followed by a dunk from Henry (Toledo, Ohio) pulled MU back to with in three at 6-3. That was as close as the Crusaders got in the half as the ‘Dons went on a 47-10 run to close the half and take a 53-13 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of the break the Crusaders cut into the ‘Dons lead, trimming it to 27 with just over eight minutes left on a Henry lay up. Madonna got back to with in 27 once more but could not get any closer, falling 86-57.
While MU was whistled for a total of 24 turnovers, just seven came after halftime as the Crusaders settled in to the flow of the game.
Madonna returns to the court on Friday, taking on legendary coach Rollie Massimino and Northwood (Fla.) in a 7pm game in West Palm Beach, Fla.
NOTES
* The Crusaders now trail the all-time series with IPFW 4-0
* The game was a match-up of the two youngest coaches in their respective divisions as IPFW's Dane Fife is the youngest NCAA Division I head coach at just 30 years of age and MU's Noel Emenhiser is just 25 years old.
* Emenhiser is now 0-2 against teams from the state of Indiana in his career.
* MU is now 0-1 in games against current members of the NCAA's Division I.
* The Crusaders made just four of their 27 first half shots (14 percent) but that number drastically improved in the second 20 minutes as MU hit 17 of its 27 shots for a 63 percent rate.
