WHAC RELEASE
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - It was announced Wednesday (Nov. 11) that the Madonna University men's soccer team had six individuals earn All-WHAC honors in a vote by the league's head coaches following the annual coaches' meeting.
Junior
Jacob Rosiek (Oak Park, Mich.) was MU's lone first team selection and was joined on the WHAC honor roll by second team picks
Emilio Giorgi (Windsor, Ont.) and
Eric Kiebert (Essex, Ont.) along with third team pick
Moses Otieno (Nairobi, Kenya). Seniors
Isaac Saint John (Dearborn, Mich.) and
Mark Pikula (Dearborn, Mich.) were the Crusaders selections to the Academic All-WHAC team while Saint John was MU's selection for the Champions of Character team as the student-athlete who best exemplifies the NAIA's five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
Rosiek was second on the squad with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points. One of just two players to start all 15 matches this season, Rosiek was a steady presence in the Crusaders midfield.
Kiebert was right behind Rosiek with three goals of his own, seeing time all over the field in his final season. Giorgi scored a pair of goals as he moved this season from an offensive, attacking style player to a more defensive and marking type player.
Otieno led MU in goals with five while also chipping in a team best five assists in his first season in the royal blue and gold.
Student-athletes named to the league's all-academic team must posses a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and be a junior or senior academically. Pikula is a cinema arts major while Saint John is majoring in business.
