GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Season best times for all six runners on the Madonna University women's cross country team, led by junior Sarah Sherwood's (Plymouth, Mich.) fifth place finish at the Great Lakes Challenge hosted in Riverside Park in Grand Rapids on the same course as the upcoming Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships.
 
Sherwood ran the 5k distance in 18:45, her best time of the season. Fellow junior Kari Saarela (Livonia, Mich.) was next for MU, placing 57th with a time of 20:03. Sophomore Cassie Yarnell (Clarkston, Mich.) was 12 seconds behind Saarela with a time of 20:15. Senior Emma Czaplicki (Farmington Hills, Mich.) came home in a time of 20:50, three second ahead of sophomore Emily Bambach (Livonia, Mich.) who came across in 20:53. Rounding out the MU contingent was junior Devan Walley (Livonia, Mich.) who ran the course in 22:15.
 
The Crusaders will take next weekend off to prep for the 2009 WHAC Championships on Nov. 7, again at Riverside Park.
