LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A pair of goals in the first nine minutes by visiting Davenport on Wednesday (Oct. 21) was too much to overcome despite a furious second half attack for the Madonna University women's soccer team as the Crusaders fell 2-1 at Greenmead Field.
DU got its goals just five minutes apart and was up 2-0 after goals from Britteny Willis and Daniella Bugli.
The match stayed 2-0 until the 61st minute when senior Jessica Austin (Livonia, Mich.) got a toe on a shot that came from fellow senior Lauren Hess (Livonia, Mich.) and the shot went just past Cat Howard to cut the MU deficit to one at 2-1.
The MU offense kept on the attack, peppering Howard with shots the remainder of the match. The Crusaders outshot the Panthers 12-3 in the second half and had a pair of shots hit the cross bar but could not get another past Howard and fell 2-1.
The Crusaders return to the pitch on Saturday in a 12pm match against No. 24 Siena Heights. That match will be played at Stevenson High School which is located on Six Mile, west of Farmington Rd. in Livonia.
