The No. 18-ranked Madonna University volleyball team swept visiting Siena Heights University 3-0 (25-19, 25-6, 25-18) on Tuesday (Oct. 13) inside the Activities Center.

Senior Mary McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) led all players with 12 kills and sophomore Katie Czarnecki (Chesterfield, Mich.) posted nine kills. Senior Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich.) handed out 30 assists and sophomore libero Amanda Koszela (Dearborn, Mich.) recorded 16 digs. Jessica Brown led SHU with eight kills.

Set one was the closest of the three with MU taking the 25-19 final. After the set was tied at 14-all the Crusaders closed it on an 11-5 run behind a pair of kills each from Karie Altman (Taylor, Mich.) and McGinnis for the win.

The middle set of the three was all Madonna as the Crusaders raced out to an 11-1 lead behind kills from Czarnecki, McGinnis and a Grinvalds service ace. The MU lead went from 13-3 to 23-3 with Altman at the service line. Altman posted two aces during the run to go along with a kill each from Czarnecki, McGinnis and Marie Martin (Canton, Mich.) for the 25-6 win.

Set three was again all MU early but SHU pulled to with in eight at 22-14 on a Brown kill. The Saints then pulled closed, making ti 23-17 on a Nikki Hughes kill before an attack error ended the set at 25-18 in favor of MU.

The Crusaders return to the court on Thursday, making the short trek to Concordia for a 7pm match.
