LIVONIA, Mich. - - The Madonna University volleyball team dropped its second straight match on Thursday (Oct. 8), falling in four sets to the University of Findlay 3-1 inside the Activities Center.
Katie Czarnecki (Chesterfield, Mich.) led MU with 14 kills while Liz Dempsey (Westland, Mich.) and Karie Altman (Taylor, Mich.) had 12 terminations each. Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich.) handed out 47 assists and posted a career best 14 digs. Dempsey chipped in with a team best 15 digs of her own. Jenny Slone led the Oilers with 21 kills.
The opening set was tight with nine ties and four lead changes. Four straight errors by the Crusaders gave UF a 23-19 lead. After MU got point 20 on an UF mistake, UF got kills from Erin Thomasson and Slone wrapped around a Mary McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) kill for the 25-21 win.
In the second set the Crusaders went up by five for the first time in the set at 17-12 on a McGinnis kill and never let the lead slip below two the rest of the way, using a kill from Marie Martin (Canton, Mich.) to end the set at 25-22.
Sets three and four saw MU hit just .114 and .087 and saw a total of 15 ties and seven lead changes. The final set went to extra pointsbut three straight kills for the Oilers after the Crusaders had set point at 25-24 gave UF the 27-25 win and 3-1 win in the match.
MU has little time to recover and regroup as the Crusaders will travel down I-75 to play at the Asbury College Classic this weekend in Wilmore, Ky.
