LIVONIA, Mich. - - For just the third time since joining the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conferenec in 1997, the Madonna University volleyball team lost a regular season home conference match on Tuesday (Oct. 6), this time in five sets to No. 25 Indiana Tech.
MU's previous two losses came in 1997 to Siena Heights and in 2007 to Michigan-Dearborn.
Junior outside hitter
Liz Dempsey (Westland, Mich.) and senior outside
Mary McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) tied for the team lead with 16 kills while Dempsey added 11 digs for her second double-double in the last three matches. Sophomore libero
Amanda Koszela (Dearborn, Mich.) had a team best 16 digs and senior setter
Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich.) handed out 47 assists.
MU came out in sets one and three and dominated, especially in the latter, posting 13 kills against just three errors in taking the set 25-14.
The Crusaders let a 2-1 lead after three sets slip away and fell in sets four and five, hitting .079 in set four and .000 in set five to drop their second match of the season.
MU has little time to dwell on the setback as NCAA Division II member Findlay comes calling on Thursday for a 7pm match inside the Activities Center. Last year in Ohio MU and UF went five sets with the Crusaders rallying from an 0-2 deficit to take the match in five.
