SOUTH LYON, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The Madonna University women's golf team made program history on Tuesday (Sept. 29), winning the squad's first ever Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship, leading from wire-to-wire in the WHAC race finishing 26 shots ahead of Indiana Tech in the race for the league crown. MU finished second in the final WHAC Jamboree of the year, which also finished Tuesday.
By virtue of the win the Crusaders earn the league's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship in Rapid City, South Dakota, on May 25-28, 2010.
Junior
Sara Simnitch (Swartz Creek, Mich.) led the way for MU by finishing fourth in the final event of the year, turning in an 81 on Tuesday. Sophomore
Chelsea Bathurst (Livonia, Mich.) tied for 10th with a two-day total of 184, lowering her second day score by four shots. Freshman
Michelle Hall (Flushing, Mich.) tied for 12th, one stroke behind Bathurst with a 185.
Following the round Hall and Simnitch were named to the All-WHAC first team while Bathurst was an honorable mention All-WHAC pick. Simnitch and Steele were tabbed to the Academic All-WHAC team while Steele was MU's rep for the WHAC's Champions of Character team.
The Crusaders wrap up the fall season this weekend at the Ohio Dominican Invite starting on Friday (Oct. 2) in Columbus, Ohio.
