DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - - The No. 12-ranked Madonna University volleyball team cruised to a three set sweep of Lindsey Wilson College, 25-12, 25-15, 25-17, to open day two of the Labor Day Classic on Saturday (Sept. 5) at the ICI Homes Center.

Junior outside hitter Liz Dempsey (Westland, Mich.) led the way for MU with 11 kills and an equal number of digs while senior outside hitter Mary McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) posted 10 kills. Senior setter Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich.) handed out 33 assists while digging 10 balls and redshirt sophomore libero Amanda Koszela (Dearborn, Mich.) led the defense with 15 digs.

The Crusaders attacked at a .292 clip for the match compared to a .057 rate for the Blue Raiders. MU collected 40 kills to just 21 for LWC in the match.

The four ties in set one were early on as the Crusaders went up 14-9 on a Grinvalds service ace before closing the set on an 11-3 run, sparked by three McGinnis kills in the 25-12 win.

Set two was all MU from the start as the Crusaders' lead never slipped below four points after a kill from sophomore middle hitter Marie Martin (Canton, Mich.) made it 12-7. From there a host of Crusaders posted kills and MU took advantage of five LWC errors in the 25-15 win.

The third and final set was all MU after the Crusader lead reached five on a 11-6 on a Dempsey kill, the lead was never again less than that five point margin behind two kills each from sophomore outside hitter Megan Fricke (Wyandotte, Mich.), freshman outside hitter Anastasija Seremetjeva (Riga, Latvia) and Dempsey in the 25-17 triumph.

The Crusaders now prepare for a showdown with the host Eagles of ERAU at 7pm for the tournament title. That match will be carried live on the Crusader Radio Network with pregame coverage starting at 6:50pm.
