FORT WAYNE, IND. - - The Madonna University women's soccer team earned their first win of the season at Indiana Tech by a score of 2-0.
With the win Madonna coach Jen Barker tallies her first victory in the young year after three consecutive one goal losses.
Madonna jumped out to a one-nil lead when Trisha Bender (Commerce, Mich.) scored in the 27th minute on a pass from Kaila Moore (Howell, Mich.).
The Crusaders took the 1-0 lead into the break despite having been out-shot seven to five in the first half of play.
Moore netted the second goal of the game for Madonna on a pass from Chelsea Shrewsbury (Milford, Mich.) in the 57th minute to round out the scoring for the Crusaders.
The Madonna defense picked up the first shutout of the year, with both sides taking just 12 shots. Goalkeeper Chelsea Gregg (Livonia, Mich.), who missed last season with an ACL injury, recorded eight saves on the day, capturing her first win of 2009 and moving her career record to 3-3-1.
With the win Madonna moves to 1-3-0 for the season and 1-1-0 in conference play. Indiana Tech falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in loop action. Madonna will return to action Wednesday, September 9th when the Crusaders travel to Grand Rapids to take on Calvin College at 5 p.m.
