LIMA, Ohio - - The Madonna women's golf team improved by nine strokes from day one to climb into a third place finish at the University of Northwestern Ohio Racer Open at Hawthorne Hills Golf Club in the opening event of the season.
 
Freshman Michelle Hall (Flushing, Mich.) improved eight strokes from day one to finish in eighth place. Classmate Megan Fleischer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made the biggest jump from day one to day two, imrpving by 11 shots to shoot a 91 and finish 29th.
 
Sophomore Chelsea Bathhurst (Livonia, Mich.) tied for 10th with an 82 while juniors Mariel Meyers (Westland, Mich.) and Sara Simnitch (Swartz Creek, Mich.) shot rounds of 84 and 90 to place 12th and 18th respectively.
 
Junior Caitlin Steele (Livonia, Mich.) and freshman Elena Thomas (White Lake, Mich.) rounded out the MU contingent by tying for 25th overall.
 
The Crusaders continue the fall slate on Monday at the USF Fall Invite hosted by the University of St. Francis at the Noblehawk Golf Course in Kendallville, Ind.
