LIVONIA, Mich. - - Madonna University head men's golf coach
Steve Mato announced Monday (July 13) that a pair of junior college transfers -
Tommy Lucko (Livonia, Mich.) and
James Uelmen (Ferndale, Mich.) have signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Madonna starting this fall.
"Both of these student-athletes will compete for a spot in the line up right away," commented Mato. "They both have had success on the course at Oakland Community College and the staff feels that success will continue here at Madonna in our quest for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship and a spot in the national tournament."
Lucko prepped at nearby Churchill High School and after being named a two-time team most valuable player, moved on to Oakland Community College where he was a two-time conference medalist along with being named to the Ping All-Region, all-state and All-Michigan Community College Eastern Conference teams. Lucko posted the 20th lowest average in the NJCAA in 2009, carding a 72.9 average per round. He was also invited to participate in the prestigious Horton Smith Invitational.
Uelmen was named player of the year at Royal Oak Dondero High School in 2006 before moving on to Oakland CC. While with the Raiders, Uelmen was tabbed to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association all-conference team along with being named all-state, all-eastern division and to the Ping All-Region squad.
Madonna finished second in the 2008-09 WHAC standings and returns seven letter winners from that squad.
