SAN ANTONIO, Texas - - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA) announced their publication awards at the groups annual conventions and the Madonna University Office of Sports Information and Athletic Communications was honored with a pair of awards from each group.
The 2008 Madonna volleyball media guide took home top honors nationally while the 2008 Madonna women's soccer guide was ranked sixth nationally by NAIA-SIDA. The volleyball guide was designed and edited by Director of Sports Information and Athletic Communications Patrick Moore with assistance from former Assistant Athletic Director Matt Fancett while the soccer guide was designed and edited by Fancett with assistance from Moore. CoSIDA tabbed the volleyball guide seventh nationally and women's soccer checked in 10th overall.
The 2007 volleyball guide also took home top honors at the NAIA-SIDA convention held last year.
The awards bring the total of first place media guides to three for the Madonna office since 2006 and bring the amount of top-five finishes to 13 in the same period of time.
"It is always nice to be recognized by your peers," commented Moore. "To have other communication professionals around the country view your work as the best is a very humbling experience. To be able to share these awards with Matt even though he has left the department makes it even more special. It was a busy time of year to get the guides ready for the start of the seasons last fall in addition to our every day work loads but to be honored with a first and sixth place selection is outstanding for the department. I also have to thank my student staff who did a lot of the 'grunt' work on the publications. They are the backbone of my office and our department."
Fans of Crusader Athletics can look for the 2009 versions of the media guides to be available on MadonnaCrusaders.com in mid to late August.
