LIVONIA, Mich. –Emma Camp (SO/Canton, Mich.) led the charge with two goals as the Madonna University women's soccer team defeated Lourdes University 5-0 to pick up their second consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory.

FINAL: Madonna (7-3-1, 2-2 WHAC) 5, Lourdes (5-5-1, 1-3 WHAC)  0

  • The Crusaders struck early with a goal in the fourth minute as Alexis Bozinovski (JR/Macomb, Mich.) drove down the right sideline, off a throw in from Caitlyn Lefebvre (SR/Dearborn, Mich.), and placed a beautiful shot up and over the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

  • A little more than 10 minutes later in the 16th minute, the Crusaders struck again as Hannah Alston (SR/Sterling Heights, Mich.) booted the ball from just outside the box into the upper left 90, for her first goal of the season.

  • The third goal of the first half for the Crusaders came courtesy of Camp converted on a free kick just outside the box drawn by the work of Monica Bridges. Camp bent the shot around the wall of defenders and beat the keeper just inside the right post.

  • The second half brought much of the same as the Crusaders did not let up and continued to pressure until the final buzzer. Camp netted her second goal of the game in the 51st minute as she boomed a shot from 35 yards out and beat the keeper in the upper right corner.

  • The final tally came off the foot of Nicolette Vultaggio (SO/Chesterfield, Mich.) in the 89th minute, as she beat defenders through the middle of the field and tapped the ball past the keeper for her 13th goal of the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Emma Camp matched her season total with two goals on five shots

  • The Crusaders more than doubled the Gray Wolves shots with 21 compared to their 9, with 13 MU shots on goal.

  • Camp and Vultaggio each had five shots and Jamie Moceri (SO/Sterling Heights, Mich.) added four.

  • Goalkeeper Julia Stewart (JR/St. Clair Shores, Mich.) continued her strong campaign in net with eight saves for her sixth clean sheet of the season.

PATTON'S PARLOR

  • "Lourdes took us out of what we wanted to do in the first half with aggressive defense and they won several 50/50 balls, however, we were able to convert on some counters and get three goals despite not holding possession as much as we'd like. In the second half I thought we played really good. We possessed the ball, controlled the tempo and won more loose balls. Emma Camp's second half goal was excellent from distance and Nicolette's was fun to watch. Overall, a strong effort and a good win." - Head Coach Paul Patton.
