LIVONIA, Mich. –Neither team was able to pull ahead as the Madonna University men's soccer team and the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles  played to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes in the Homecoming match at the Madonna Athletics Complex  on Friday night.

FINAL (2OT): Madonna (7-1-1, 2-0-1 WHAC) 0, Cornerstone (2-3-3, 1-0-2 WHAC) 0

  • The first half of this WHAC contest did not bring much action as both sides combined for a total of four shots and four corner kicks.

  • A surge by both teams in the second half intensified the match, as the team's traded scoring chances. One of the Crusaders' best chances came in the 77th minute, as sophomore striker Yuri Farkas (SO/Sao Paulo, Brazil) took a shot from just outside the 18 that was headed for the lower right corner before the Cornerstone keeper dove and deflected the shot wide for an MU corner kick.

  • The Crusaders continued to pressure in the 88th minute when a great give-and-go between Farkas and Hector Morales (SR/Habana, Cuba) in the box led to an uncontested shot that just missed wide of the goal.

  • The steady play of goalkeeper Joe Smith (JR/Royal Oak, Mich.) once again gave the Crusaders an opportunity to win as he had an answer for every shot that came his way. In the 91st minute, a corner kick from the Golden Eagles resulted in a header that was destined for the back of the net before he dove and knocked the ball away off the goalpost to preserve the tie.

  • Farkas and Morales led the Crusaders' charge with two shots each, while the Crusaders tallied nine chances on the night.

  • Five other players attempted a shot in the match while Farkas and Justin Stack (FR/Brownstown, Mich.) each recorded the lone shots on goal.

  • Goalkeeper Joe Smith continued his dominance in goal stopping all five shots on goal in the 110:00 minute game.

  • The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, October 4 as they travel to Sylvania, Ohio to take on fellow WHAC opponent Lourdes University under the lights at 7:00pm. Live stats of the match will be available at sidearmstats.com/lourdes/msoc/.
