LIVONIA, Mich. – Amanda Hawkins (SR/Livonia, Mich.) came one kill shy of a career-high to help lead the 22nd-ranked Madonna University volleyball team to a 3-1 win over University of Windsor to finish the Julie Martin Memorial Classic 2-0.

MATCH 1: No. 22 Madonna (12-2) 3, Windsor (1-2) 1 (25-23, 9-25, 25-23, 25-19)

  • The key moment in set one came when Ryleigh Jacobs (FR/Adrian, Mich.) broke a 7-7 tie with a kill and a pair of errors by the Lancers, one induced by a block assist by Hawkins and Jodie Kelly (FR/Romeo, Mich.), put MU ahead 10-7 and they never trailed the rest of the set

  • Head Coach Jerry Abraham described set two as "something that just happens in the game of volleyball and it seems like you just can't do anything right." It was all Lancers in the set as they evened the match with a 25-9 win

  • The third set mirrored the first as the teams played even volleyball until a pair of Karlie Kelly (SR/Romeo, Mich.) kills turned a 12-11 deficit into a 13-12 advantage. Ryan Castle (FR/Okemos, Mich.) then served four straight points to propel MU to the win

  • In the final set the Lancers once again hung around until a Lauren Korth (JR/Romeo, Mich.) kill tied the score at 12 and a pair of block assists by Korth and Hawkins pushed the lead to three, 16-14 and the Crusaders made the plays they needed to for the match win
