@MUCrusadersXCTF men open season fourth at Knight Invite

RESULTS | GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Madonna University men's cross country team, led by the program's first All-American, Tony Floyd (SO/Westland, Mich.), placed fourth at the 22-team Calvin Knight Invite to begin the 2017 campaign.

The Crusaders placed five runners in the top-65 of the 253-runner field led by Floyd who placed third overall and scored two team points with a time of 25:09.8. He was the top NAIA finisher in the event that featured nine other NAIA programs, which includes seven other Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference programs.

Devin Gibson (JR/Westland, Mich.) was the next to cross the line as he did so in 26:01 to place 24th overall and earn 19 points. Alex Brauer (FR/Livonia, Mich.) placed 32nd overall in 26:08.8 as the third Crusader to cross the line with Joseph Mercier (SO/White Lake, Mich.) (46th, 26:36.5) and Jack Balint (FR/Livonia, Mich.) (61, 26:53.1) wrapping up the team scoring as MU collected 126 points.

Calvin College won the event with 32 points with Grand Valley State coming in second with 109. Ohio Northern placed third with 116 points followed by Madonna and Cornerstone (128) to round out the top five.

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at Forest Akers East Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan for the Spartan Invite hosted by Michigan State University.
