LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University men's golf program, fresh off their best finish at the NAIA Championships in program history, have added six student-athletes to the 2017-18 roster, 12-year head coach Steve Mato has announced. The newcomers will be asked to help lead the Crusaders back to the National Championships after Madonna claimed the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament championship last season.

"We have a lot of momentum in our program right now," said Mato. "We have a strong core of returners, but we also graduated a few key pieces from last year's team and will look to several of this year's class to contribute right away and continue to build on the solid foundation of success we have built."

Raif Foster - 5-8 – Bellbrook, Ohio / Bellbrook HS

  • Earned varsity letters in golf and wrestling
  • CIF freshman year
  • Two-time team captain
  • First Team All-League

Connor Greenlee - 6-2 - Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington HS (Henry Ford College)

  • Two-Time All-Academic (2015-16)
  • Two-Time All-Conference honoree (2015-16)
  • Two-Time State Qualifier (2016-17)

Ian Nicholson – 5-10 – Farmington Hills, Mich. / Eton Academy (Aquinas College)

  • Three-Time Eton Bull Dog Award winner
  • Earned Eton Spirit Award as a sophomore
  • Four-years on National Honor Society
  • Earned first ever Coach Nutt Award as a senior
  • MVP in Basketball, Flag Football and Golf

Brandon Petzak - 5-7 - Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron HS

  • Two-time Scholar-Athlete award recipient
  • SEC Red Division Sportsmanship Award as a freshman
  • Four-time SEC Red Division All-Conference
  • District Individual Medalist as a freshman
  • Two-time team captain
  • Three-time team MVP
  • Two-time State qualifier
  • Top 10 finish at 2017 state finals
  • Two-time All-State (First Team in 2017)

George Rodopoulos - 5-9 - Taylor, Mich. / John F. Kennedy HS

  • Four-time varsity golf letterwinner
  • Carded 76 to place second at District Tournament
  • Shot 77 to finish third at News Heard High School Tournament

Andrew Volk - 5-9 - East Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS

  • 2016 Division III State Champions
  • Two-time All-State (2016-17)
  • Three-time All-Conference (2014-16)
  • Three-time Conference and District Champion (2014-16)
  • Named to Mlive Bay City Times Dream Team three times (2015-17)
  • Also played club hockey for 11 years

The Crusaders open the 2017-18 season on Sept. 1-2 at the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by Olivet College at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Fall schedule also features five WHAC Jamboree's and the Crusader Classic held at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan Sept. 25-26.
