SCHOLAR-ATHLETES | KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Thursday that 383 baseball student-athletes have been named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Madonna University saw six individuals honored while William Woods University (Mo.) led the way with 11 honorees.
All six Crusaders to earn the honor were seniors and they are Alex DeYonker (SR/Livonia, Mich.) (Business Administration), Ryan Freemantle (SR/Mississauga, Ontario) (Environmental Science), Taylor Grzelakowski (SR/Fraser, Mich.) (Business Administration), Ryan Lambrecht (SR/Lake Orion, Mich.) (Accounting), Zack Schmidtke (SR/Dearborn Heights, Mich.) (Business Administration), Mitchel Sykes (JR/Livonia, Mich.) (Business Administration).
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
