SILVIS, Ill. – The Madonna University men's golf team fought through 20-35 mile per hour winds and tough pin placements to finish the opening round of the 66th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in a tie for 11th with a 305.

Justin Pahl (JR/White Lake, Mich.) paced the Crusaders with a one-over par 72 to tie for14th at TPC Deere Run. The junior carded a 37 on the front nine then finished with a 35 on the back. He played the 11 par 4's even with one bogey and one birdie and was one under on the three par 5's, however, he finished two-over on the three par 3's. His 13 pars in round one tied for the third most on the day.

John Tatti (JR/Canton, Mich.) carded a five-over 76 as he shot even par on the back nine with four birdies, which leads the team and is the second most in round one. He is currently in a tie for 45th in the 155-player field and had seven pars to go with his four birdies.

Connor Humitz (SR/Livonia, Mich.), who finished as the runner up in Monday's longest drive contest, is in a tie for 67th with a seven-over par 78. Humitz birdied the par four fifth hole, but had four bogeys and a double in a front nine 40. He finished strong with seven pars and two bogeys coming in.

Marc Hebert (SR/Shelby Township, Mich.) is one stroke behind Humitz, tied for 84th. He birdied the par three seventh and tallied five pars in a front nine 37, but a pair of doubles marred his round on the back nine as he posted a 42.

Michael Gaulin (SR/Shelby Township, Mich.) was the fifth golfer for Madonna in the opening 18 holes as he carded an opening round 83. The front nine was not kind to Gaulin who had just two pars, but had six such holes to come in with a 39.

Madonna, who tallied 48 pars and 8 birdies on day one, is two strokes behind Dalton State College (Ga.) for a spot in the top-10. Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) is the round one leader in the 29-team field with a five-over par 289 with Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) four strokes back with a 293. Wayland Baptist (Texas) and University of British Columbia are tied for third with 295's while Grand View University (Iowa) rounds out the top five with a 296.

Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester and William Woods University (Mo.)'s David Houlding are tied atop the individual standings as each carded an opening round two-under 69.
