RESULTS | AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Madonna University women's golf team tied for the lowest round of the tournament, a 322, on Saturday to finish fifth at the Shootout at Stonehedge hosted by Lawrence Technical University at Stonehedge Golf Club North.
The Crusaders finished the 36-hole event with a 661 (339-322), led by Karen Zambrano (SO/Madrid, Colombia) who finished third with a 157 (77-80) after a final round 80 on Saturday that featured nine pars and three birdies.
Ayla Bogie (SR/Clio, Mich.) shaved five strokes off her opening round 82 to card a day two 77 to finish tied for fifth with a 159 (82-77). Bogie carded 14 pars, which included 10 straight from holes 1-10. Not to be outdone, Natalie Blazo (SR/Dearborn, Mich.) improved 12 strokes in round two as she carded a 77 to tie for 14th with a 166 (89-77). Blazo had nine pars in the round.
Kelsey Edwards (SO/Ortonville, Mich.) rounded out the team scoring with an 88 to finish 33rd with a 179 (91-88). She had five pars in her final round.
The average player score in round two was 87.40 while the average round for the tournament was an 88.16.
University of Northwestern Ohio, who is ranked 21st in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, won the event with a 649 (326-323) while Siena Heights University was second with a 652 (326-326). Cardinal Stritch rounded out the top three with a 653 (331-322). Hannah Stradling of Cardinal Stritch won individual medalist honors with a 153 (76-77).
The event served as a tune-up of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships, which will be played at the same course on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 21-22, the next event on the schedule for the Crusaders.
