RESULTS | AUGUSTA, Mich. – In a tune-up for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship, also held at Stonehedge North Golf Club, the 23rd-ranked Madonna University men's golf team carded a 297 and hold a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Shootout at Stonehedge hosted by Lawrence Technical University.
The Crusaders placed four of their five golfers in the top-10, led by Justin Pahl (JR/White Lake, Mich.) who tied for third with a one-over 73, one stroke off the lead. John Tatti (JR/Canton, Mich.) is just two strokes behind the leaders after he carded an opening round 74 while Michael Gaulin (SR/Shelby Township, Mich.) and Marc Hebert (SR/Shelby Township, Mich.) each posted 75's to help the Blue and Gold to the round one lead.
Connor Humitz (SR/Livonia, Mich.) rounded out the scoring for Madonna tied for 17th with a 76.
Josh Wilson and Josh Stein of the host Blue Devils sit atop the 87-golfer field with a pair even-par 72's.
Madonna is atop the 16-team leaderboard after their nine-over-par day one, one stroke better than LTU. Seventh-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio is third with a 301 with Mott Community College fourth with a 302 while the UNOH "B" team rounds out the top five with a 306.
The final regular season round for the Crusaders will take place tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 15 with the second round of the Shootout at Stonehedge.
