Women’s Golf Opens Spring with Fifth Place Finish

RESULTS | SHEPERDSVILLE, Ky. – The Madonna University women's golf program held its spot on the leaderboard in the final round of the Heritage Hills Collegiate on Sunday afternoon, finishing fifth with a 36-hole total of 683 (341-342).

The event, hosted by Lawrence Technical University, was played at Heritage Hills Golf Club and featured four teams mentioned in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.

Karen Zambrano (SO/Madrid, Colombia) was the lone player in the top-10 that saw no positive or negative movement despite cutting a pair of strokes from her opening round. The Crusaders' sophomore carded a final round 78 to finish with a 158 (80-78), tied for seventh.

Natalie Blazo (SR/Dearborn, Mich.) moved up four spots from round one after she posted a second round 79 to finish the tournament with a 161 (82-79) and tied for 11th. Ayla Bogie (SR/Clio, Mich.) carded a day two 87 for a 36-hole 179 (86-87) to finish 21st while Kelsey Edwards (SO/Ortonville, Mich.) rounded out the team scoring with a second round 98 for a two-day 191 (93-98).

Anna Reid of Faulkner University (Ala.) took home individual medalist honors with a three-over par 147 (77-70) as the 17th-ranked Eagles won the the event with a 622 (312-310). The host Blue Devils made a furious comeback on day two and carded the lowest team round of the tournament with a 306 to finish just four shots back of Falkner with a 626 (320-306). Marian University (Ind.) finished third with a 634 (315-319) while Saint Francis (Ind.) placed fourth with a 674 (337-337).

The Crusaders will take two weeks off before returning to the links on Saturday, April 1 at the UPike Spring Invite hosted by Pikeville University at Stonecrest Country Club in Prestonsburg, Ky.
