GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference office announced Monday (Jan. 21) that Madonna University's Bobby Naubert was selected as the WHAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 20.
This week's selection marks the fifth time this season that Naubert has been tabbed for the league's weekly honor and is the second straight week Naubert was selected for the award. Naubert was also selected on Nov. 19, Dec. 10, Dec. 17 and Jan. 14.
Naubert (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) led No. 19 Madonna to a perfect 2-0 week and maintained the Crusaders' hold on first place in the WHAC standings.
In MU's come-from-behind road win at Indiana Tech last Wednesday (Jan. 14) Naubert led the Crusaders with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and nine assists. Naubert had seven straight points during MU's 12-2 run in the second half that gave the Crusaders the lead back for good in the 78-68 win that completed MU's season sweep of IT.
In MU's 90-63 win over Concordia Naubert again led the Crusaders with 16 points along with eight assists and six rebounds while playing just 27 minutes in the victory.
For the week the junior guard averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 assists and seven rebounds per game. He shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the floor and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) from the free throw line.
The Crusaders wrap up a two-game homestand on Wednesday night (Jan. 23) with an 8 p.m. game against Lourdes at the Activities Center.
