FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, the No. 19-ranked Madonna University men's basketball team rallied back and pulled off a 78-68 come-from-behind win over Indiana Tech on Wednesday night (Jan. 16) at the Schaefer Center. The game was the opener to the second half of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) schedule for both sides.

With the win, MU sweeps the season series from Indiana Tech for the second straight season and the No. 19-ranked Crusaders remain a full game in front of No. 11 Davenport for first place in the WHAC standings.

Junior guard Bobby Naubert (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) led MU with 21 points, nine assists and eight rebounds to go along with 20 points from junior backcourt mate Travis Schuba (Rapid City, Mich. / Kalkaska). Senior forward Eoghann Stephens (Liss, England / Albion) posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Junior forward Fred Williams rounded out the Crusaders in double figures with 11 points and eight rebounds in the win.

The Crusaders fell behind by 10, 19-9, over the first 8:52 of the game before a Schuba basket started a 21-10 run that spanned six minutes and was capped with a 3-pointer from freshman Tyler Stewart (Canton, Mich. / Salem) to give MU a 30-29 lead. Schuba had 10 points during the run to go along with an old fashioned three-point play from Williams that gave MU its first lead of the night.

Stephens scored the final three points of the half to give MU a 33-29 lead at intermission.

Williams knocked down a triple to open the second half and Naubert followed with four straight points to push the Crusaders' lead to double-digits, 40-29, with 17:38 left.

Another Naubert score gave MU its largest lead of the game at 13 points, 49-36, with 14:40 to go.

Tech trailed by 12, 55-43, with 11:35 left and began climbing back into the game, taking advantage of cold MU shooting to take a 59-57 lead. Tech's 16-2 run spanned just under six minutes of clock time and was aided by four MU turnovers and six missed shots by the Crusaders.

Schuba connected on one of his four 3-pointers to end the Tech run and put MU back in front, 60-59. That basket began a 12-2 MU run that included a triple from junior guard Matt Jenkins (Plymouth, Mich. / Fr. Gabriel Richard Catholic) and seven points from Naubert to give the Crusaders the lead back for good.

Melvin Brooks led Tech with 29 points and 14 rebounds while Antonio Cannon added 15 markers in the loss.

The Crusaders return home to host No. 8-ranked Concordia on Saturday in the second half of a women's and men's double header. Tipoff at the Activities Center is set for 3 p.m.
