LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 25-ranked Madonna University men's basketball team used a 21-4 run to open the second half and establish control in a 67-53 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference newcomer Lawrence Tech in the first meeting between the two schools Wednesday night (Jan. 2) at the Activities Center.

A trio of juniors scored in double figures for the Crusaders. Guard Bobby Naubert (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) led MU with 15 points and five assists while fellow guard Matt Jenkins scored 13 to go along with 12 points and four rebounds from forward Fred Williams (Oak Park, Mich. / Berkley). Senior forward Eoghann Stephens (Liss, England / Albion) had six points, four steals, three blocks and two assists in the win.

The first half was even as both sides held leads before MU broke a 24-all tie with a pair of free throws by Jenkins with 3:50 left. MU went on to out score LTU 11-3 over the remainder of the half to take a 35-27 lead into the break.

Coming out of intermission, the Crusaders began a 21-4 run that spanned the first 10:18 of the second half to establish a dominating 56-31 lead. Williams had 10 points during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers. Freshman Zak Lewis (Petoskey, Mich. / Petoskey) and junior Derek Lennen (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) also knocked down triples during the run that put MU in front for good.

MU (11-5, 6-2 WHAC) held LTU (2-14, 1-7 WHAC) scoreless for almost six minutes of game time during the run.

Jake Mullin led LTU with 13 points while Anthony Sisson added 11 points in the loss.

MU wraps up its brief two-game homestand with a 3 p.m. tipoff against Siena Heights on Saturday (Jan. 5) at the Activities Center. The game is the second half of a women's and men's double header against the Saints.
