CALEDONIA, Mich. - - Behind four players in the top-10 including co-leader Vince Carango (Lawton, Mich. / Lawton), the Madonna University men's golf team holds the overnight lead at the 2012 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship at Stonewater Country Club.

Day one consisted of 36-holes and the Crusaders turned in an opening round 309 before carding a 312 in the second 18-holes of the day for a 621. The opening day saw cold and very windy conditions that saw scores come in well above par for most golfers. MU leads the field by 13-shots over Indiana Tech (634). Host Davenport is third with a 643 while Siena Heights is in fourth with a 648. Aquinas (650), Northwestern Ohio (661), Cornerstone (666) and Concordia (755) round out the field.

Carango shot the low round of the day with a 1-over par 72 in round two after a 78 to open the day. Carango is tied with Mark Beneke of Indiana Tech. Beneke shot rounds of 73 and 77 to card a 150 total and sit in first place.

Junior Andy Myers (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn) is in a tie for third with a 157 after rounds of 76 and 81. Senior Nick Sears (Clio, Mich. / Powers Catholic) is part of a four-way tie for fifth after carding rounds of 76 and 82 for a 158. Sophomore Eric Taurence (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt) rounds out the scorers for MU and is part of a four-way tie for ninth with a 160. Taurence shot rounds of 83 and 77 for his total.

Sophomore Dave Goad (Allen Park, Mich. / Allen Park) is in 22nd after posting rounds of 79 and 88 while freshman Nick Corbeil (Romulus, Mich. / Huron) is in a the for 26th after rounds of 83 and 87.

MU will look to secure its second trip to the NAIA National Championships with another 18-holes on Tuesday.
