LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A total of 17 home games, a trip to San Diego and a trip to central Florida for spring break highlight the 2012 Madonna University baseball schedule announced today (Jan. 25) by head coach Greg Haeger.
The four-time reigning Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference champions open the 2012 slate on Feb. 10-11 in San Diego, playing four games at Point Loma Nazarene University. The Crusaders will not only take on the host Sea Lions but two other opponents to be determined at this time.
The following weekend MU travels to Dayton, Tenn., to take part in the Tennessee Valley Invitational hosted by Bryan College. The Crusaders take on Asbury, Rio Grande, Tennessee Temple and the host Lions Feb, 17-18.
The annual spring break trip, slated for March 2-10, takes the Crusaders to the Orlando, Fla., area for 14 games in 10 days against the likes of Bethel, Bluefield, Evangel, Grace, Olivet Nazarene, Point Park, Purdue North Central and Warner.
MU returns north for a March 13 matchup at NCAA Division I Central Michigan for the second straight season. In 2011, CMU narrowly defeated MU 3-1.
St.Patrick's Day brings the opening of WHAC play as MU hosts Aquinas in a four-game series March 17-18. Besides the Aquinas series, the Crusaders host Lourdes (March 31-April 1), Concordia (April 5-7) and Northwestern Ohio (April 27-28) in WHAC contests at Ilitch Ballpark. MU travels to Siena Heights (March 24-25), Davenport (April 14-15) and Indiana Tech (April 21-22) in road four-game sets.
The annual WHAC Championship Tournament starts May 2.
