LIMA, Ohio (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The Madonna University men's basketball team took on the University of Northwestern Ohio for just the second time in the history of the two programs and the home standing Racers drove away with the win on Saturday (Jan. 15) with a 81-68 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory inside The Garage on the UNOH campus.

Junior Mike Clark (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) led MU (4-15; 2-5 WHAC) with a career-high 16 points while redshirt junior Mitch Cieslak (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) added 14 markers and senior Geoff Gaylor (Roscommon, Mich. / Roscommon) chipped in with 10 point and a team-best nine rebounds. Jake Bolyard led all players with 24 points for UNOH (6-12; 3-5 WHAC).

Both sides started off cold from the floor, with the Crusaders missing their first three shots before cracking the score column with a jumper from redshirt junior Tyler Coker (Whitmore Lake, Mich. / Whitmore Lake) to make it 3-2 in the early going. The Racers then went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-2 lead with 16:06 left in the first half.

The Crusaders began to trade baskets with the Racers and pulled to with-in seven, 19-12 with 11:19 left in the opening half but the Racers answered back with a 12-2 run to go in front by 17, 31-14 with 6:25 to go. The Racers continued to push on the accelerator, taking a 22-point lead into halftime, 44-22.

Coming out of the break the Crusaders could only whittle the Racer lead down to 16 early in the half and fell by the 81-68 final. MU committed 19 turnovers during the game and that turned into 25 UNOH points.

Madonna returns home for a Wednesday night (Jan. 19) game against Aquinas College. Tip off inside the Activities Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
