LIVONIA, Mich. – Behind a career-high 17 points from senior Kristie Porada (Rockwood, Mich. / Carlson), including six in a decisive 17-2 run in the first half, the Madonna University women's basketball team downed visiting Aquinas 78-52 on Saturday (Jan. 12) in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game at the Activities Center.

In addition to Porada's career-best, senior forward Kaylee McGrath (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) led all players with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds. Fellow senior guard Shantelle Herring (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota) joined Porada with 17 markers and a game-high nine rebounds for the Crusaders.

Aquinas scored the game's first basket but never led again as MU went on a 17-2 run over the next 4:29 of the game to take a 19-4 lead. Porada had six of MU's points during the run with Herring adding five points and McGrath chipping in with a 3-pointer and a pair of assists to put MU on top by 15.

The Crusaders maintained their double-digit lead, pushing it to as many as 20 points in the opening half, before the Saints went on an 8-0 run to pull within 12, 34-22, with 2:03 to go.

Sophomore guard Chelsea Williams (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) began a 6-2 MU run to close the half with a layup and added another jumper with 34 seconds left to give the Crusaders a 16-point lead, 40-24, at halftime.

The MU lead grew to 24, 50-26, over the first 4:35 of the half with McGrath accounting for four of the points.

With MU on top by 23, 54-31, with 13:06 remaining AQ went on a 12-5 run to pull within 16, 59-43, with 9:54 left.

McGrath then had five of the next seven points in a 7-0 MU run to put the Crusaders firmly back in control with a 23-point lead. The Saints could not get any closer than 18 points the rest of the way as the Crusaders cruised to the 26-point victory, 78-52.

Marisa Marx led AQ with 17 points off the bench with Shelby Carter adding in 13 off the bench as well in the loss.

MU begins the second half of the WHAC slate Wednesday night (Jan. 16) at Indiana Tech in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
