WHAC Release

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) office has announced the 2012 WHAC Women's Golf Awards and a total of five Crusaders took home honors led by WHAC Individual Medalist Michelle Hall and WHAC Coach of the Year Scott Marzolino.

Marzolino earned his second Coach of the Year honor in the last three seasons after leading the Crusaders to the program's second WHAC Championship in the last three seasons and a second bid to the NAIA National Championships in that same time frame. Marzolino has taken a fledgling program seven years ago and turned into a consistent contender for the league championship.

Hall (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing) won her second straight individual championship and led wire-to-wire in the chase for the crown in earning her third straight selection to the All-WHAC first team. The junior posted an 81.42 stroke per round average over the seven rounds of conference play. Hall won three events including the WHAC Championship last week.

Freshman Chelsea Collura (Riverview, Mich. / Gabriel Richard Catholic) joined Hall on the first team with an 87.57 stroke average over the seven rounds. Collura becomes the first MU freshman since Hall in 2009 to earn All-WHAC first team honors.

Fellow freshman Becca Porter (Lambertville, Mich. / Bedford) earned a spot on the honorable mention team with a 90.1 average in her seven league events.

Junior Megan Fleischer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Marian Catholic) and Hall were MU's selections to the Academic All-WHAC team. To be selected, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically and have a 3.25 grade point average or higher. Fleischer was also MU's choice for the WHAC's Champions of Character team as the student-athlete who best displays the NAIA's Five Core Values of respect, responsibility, servant leadership, integrity and sportsmanship.

The Crusaders are now preparing for the NAIA National Championships slated for May 15-18 at Link Hills Country Club in Greenville, Tenn.
